Untitled #1, (The Line-Up), from You Next, 2018

$500.00

Donald Perry, a barber at Salon Ramsey in Atlanta, holds a client’s head still while giving him a line-up. Such an act of intimacy is common in the barber shop. August 2018.

12 x 18. 2019, custom framed print. Edition of 10. Signed in pencil by artist on label verso.

This image was created as part of Antonio Johnson’s You Next project, which took the artist across the United States to capture the communities within black barber shops and explore the ways they operate as sites for identity formation and wellness work. Shot between June 2018 and June 2019, You Next was Johnson’s seminal work. The photos inspired his first book, also titled You Next.
